Ultrasound
Diagnostic Schools
Diagnostic
Medical Sonographers use high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound)
directed through the human body to form an image that can be taped
or photographed for interpretation and diagnosis by a physician.
This diagnostic method is relatively non-intrusive, and used for
obstetrics and gynecology, and abdominal, ophthalmic and neural
diagnosis.
Entry
is through recognized training programs, usually associate and bachelor
degrees. Course work includes anatomy, physiology, basic physics,
patient care and medical ethics. A good ultrasound diagnostic school
will give you the skills and knowledge you need to be immediately
effective in this career. The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical
Sonographers (ARDMS) certifies the competency of Sonographers through
registration, obtained by passing their exams. Beginning in 2005,
ARDMS will only consider candidates holding an associate or bachelor
degree.
