The Life of a Pharmacy Assistant
Pharmacy assistants, who perform general duties in the pharmacy, work the same hours as pharmacists, which can include nights, weekends, and holidays, particularly if the pharmacy or healthcare facility is open 24 hours a day. About 80 percent of pharmacy assistants work in retail pharmacies, grocery stores, or department stores.
With Medical Training You Can Have a Career as a Pharmacy Assistant
Most pharmacy assistants get their career training on-the-job. Employers favor applicants with at least a high school diploma and a diploma from a pharmacy assistant program or medical career training center can give you an edge over the competition. Coursework includes medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology; computer usage; medical math and basic pharmacology; and bookkeeping, accounting, and insurance processing. |
