Counseling Programs
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) claims that the employment outlook for counselors should be very strong, following the general trend of good opportunities in healthcare careers. The BLS also indicates that most counselors working in established healthcare careers have obtained master's degrees. During graduate counseling and healthcare programs, students can take preparatory classes in a variety of subjects, including mental health counseling, marriage and family counseling, and career counseling. Counseling and healthcare programs can sharpen students' abilities in critical thinking, emotional development, problem solving, and oral communication. Students may also participate in a practicum, which allows them to develop useful counseling skills in a clinical setting.
