The Pharmacy Technician is trained as an assistant to the Pharmacist, skilled in the practical and mechanical aspects of pharmacy practice, assisting in the various activities of inventory management, compounding, and dispensing of medications. Such duties include, but need not be limited to: maintaining patient records, retrieving and packaging medication doses, filling and distributing, maintaining inventories of drug supplies, and mixing of parenteral fluids.
The Pharmacy Technician curriculum provides technical, practical pharmaceutical knowledge and hands-one experience leading to employment as an assistant to a Registered Pharmacist.

Description: |
The Pharmacy Technician program at Apollo College provides the technical and practical training to allow you to work as an assistant to a licensed pharmacist in both retail and hospital settings. The program will provide you with extensive knowledge in pharmaceutical and medical terminology, abbreviations and symbols used in prescribing, dispensing and charting of medications and a working knowledge of drug trade and generic names as well as strengths, dosages, dosage forms and routes of administration.
Reading comprehension, pharmacy mathematics, use of the calculator, and good verbal and written communication skills are functionally taught throughout the course. Upon completion of all classroom instruction and practical training, you will perform the skills you learned during a 260-hour externship in a hospital, retail pharmacy, or pharmaceutical distributor.
